So I made it to Columbia today to meet with Dr. Pat Smith of Columbia Orthopedic Group. From the beginning I felt comfortable dealing with Dr. Smith. It all started when he shook my hand. He treated me like a friend and not a patient. As we were viewing the MRI and X-Rays of my knee, he began to explain a study on ACL grafts. One is a Hamstring graft, and the other is a Patella graft. The study guarantees two free MRI's for two years after the surgery and it will help cover certain medical expenses. My surgery and many others just like me will help collect information that will help many others down the line. He asked me what I wanted to go to school for. I told him Strength and Conditioning for sports and he said he has connections to Missouri University and could help me work with people from Mizzou to reach my goals. While I'm bummed about having to have a surgery and missing my Junior season, the good things outweigh the bad things.
