Hello all,
I would like to share with you some of my personal favorite spots on the inter-webs for guiding the DIY pedal quest that one might embark upon. There are plenty of DIY kits that will send you what you need and step-by-step instructions. But in all reality, pedal building from scratch is fairly simple and extremely cheap compared to what the kit places charge you. So without further adieu...
1. tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/
My favorite and what I feel is the best DIY pedal site around. The simplest way to get started building your own pedals without the hassle of PCB boards. If you are unfamiliar with vero board or how to use it to build a pedal, there is a great guide on the site as well.
2. www.bitsbox.co.uk/index.html
Another great DIY place that is specific to our friends across the pond. Sadly, they do not ship to the States anymore, but for those of you in the UK, this is a great place to get the components you need for a project in a pre-made kit (that is many times parallel with the parts used in #1) and there's no need to worry about finding the correct components yourself.
3. diy-fever.com/
There is not much step-by-step instruction here, but what's the fun in being spoon fed, right?!? Here you will find ideas for cool projects and an insightful walkthrough of the components and thought process behind each build, along with the schematic and pictoral layout of the compnents.
4. www.guitarpcb.com/apps/webstore/
If you're not feeling the vero board, here is a site you can get pre-made PCB boards for fairly cheap made for specific pedals and then just put the components on and you're done. No cutting or bridging vero board.
5. www.pedalpartsplus.com/
Here is a great place to get components and enclosures.
6. www.taydaelectronics.com/
This is my personal favorite component and enclosure store.
I will try to keep updating this as I find more places of interest, but this is a good starting point for those wishing to build their own pedals. Enjoy and get to soldering!
