My Grandma has got this old record player and it has a head which looks EXACTLY like one of those old Sears Silvertone heads, it even has a tone control. I'm not sure I'll do anything with it, but I might try to make it into an amp head. I say maybe because, well, I know shit about electronics.

There's actually a good bit of info out there on the interwebs about converting those to do just that. There's a ton of people that have done it. Just gotta find a good example with tons of pics.

Yeah man just do the little test he does and figure out any other way to bleed the voltages out before you get working and you'll be fine

Okay guys, I'll have to actually look over the head first, just to make sure what type it is out of the ones he is describing.

lemme tell ya something, i did this very thing, 30 yrs ago. it was my gigging amp until it caught fire. i used a 20w gorrilla practice amp into a floor model stereo from the 60's and then into a 2X15 cab, and also for a while, a 4x10 cab. my bass player set it up for me after i burned up an old sunn rig from the 60's. how many guy you know that they can say they lit the same cab on fire 3 times, the same head twice?. bar owners used to complain about the ghetto look of our gear, but i swear that set up brought tone that was straight the eff up exactly the british steel/point of entry tone that we needed. we played howard high school battle of the bands. when the curtain came up there were some laughs. i knew what they were laughing at. but then we crashed into a 3 song medley of say what you will/nother thing comin/holy diver. everyone stopped laughing immediately.
