Since it's my senior year in high school, a lot of people (myself included) have been wondering what I should do with my future. I don't want to go to college right now, because I just don't want to have to worry about the payment side of things. Money has been a sparse thing in my life lately, and I don't want that feeling to continue.
Anyways, my friends, the school staff, and my family members have all seen how much I love guitars and making music. Like you'd probably expect, a few people said, "Well, you could write music and be famous and stuff like that." But looking at the small percentage of people who can actually make a living off of their music kind of scares me... So I've been thinking about just working as a tech or a luthier.
Honestly, I've been liking playing a bit less compared to working on guitars.
What do you guys think of this idea? Do you know if it's something I could even try to follow? I mean, a "goal" for me (or just something I'd love to have happen) is to work in a custom shop, like Fender or Gibson, and work on really high brow guitars. Or maybe even be an independent luthier, and just make my own guitars.
Do you guys think it'd even be possible to do something like this?

It is certainly possible. Head on over to Cigar Box Nation and Handmade Music Clubhouse. Talk to the guys there, many of them are full-time, independent luthiers.

Absolutely it's possible. Many people do it.. Many more than there are famous musicians. Grab a job at a music store.. Get into working there part or full time.. And try and work your way into the tech side of it through an already existing business.. 15 years down the road.. You might have enough of a following if you get good at your craft that people will go wherever you're at because they like the way YOU set up guitars.
