So, I have on and off modded my Squier. I recently painted it and upgraded a few parts and what not. I also had recently thought about buying a new guitar, but now I just feel it would be better to just make my squier better and more to my liking. Things to change::: - Add a floyd rose system - Replace the neck (Maple, 22 Fret)
My question is as follows... What is involved in installing the floyd rose? This one specifically: www.guitarfetish.com/Floyd-Rose-Fastloader-locking-Tremolo-System_p_260.html Do I need to do any routing? Drilling? What?
For now thats all I got to ask, but Im sure ill need more help later.

You will need to use a router and cut out a hole for the larger trem. Depending on how thick the body is you may not have enough room

Make sure to research neck well, only squier necks fit squires.

honestly if you want to tinker with strats, just build a nice partscaster. using a squier body for a build is a poor investment in time as well as money. you'll pay way more for a neck than what the body will ever be worth, even if you wrap it in dollar bills. dont get me wrong, some squiers are nice guitars, and quite playable in their own right. i had one myself about 4 yrs ago. but there is a limit to the benefits of modding a lower end guitar. a better idea wouldbe to collect the parts and build a partscaster. even if you build a budget one, you'll still have a better guitar right off the bat. don't misunderstand me. i'm not knocking your guitar. i only am trying to help you make an informed decision.

You know, I was strongly considering this, and I think you gave me the convincing I needed. I think Ill get a body from GuitarFetish. Ill get one already finished so I don't have to fuck around with the painting. All the purchases I have made from GFS have been very good. Then ill get a loaded pickguard and a neck from guitarpartsonline.com

Im thinking one of these... I like the idea of the binding. I think it looks cool and would be different from what I already have. I also kinda like that orangish color though....

Gonna run about $370 after shipping and the required package insurance (which I would get anyway, if it was an option). That's with a hardshell case. Total would be around $300 with no case (probably a few dollars less because of not shipping the case). I made a list below of what I'd build if it were my guitar (aside from the color choice of the guitar, I left that with one you posted). Don't know what your pickguard plans were color wise, but I stuck to a white 3-ply with 2 PAF humbuckers. That being said, I modded my Squier and prefer it over some of the American models I have played. The point of modding the living hell out of a guitar, is to make it yours. I don't plan on selling either of the 2 Strats that I modded. I'd take a bath on them if I tried selling them with the money that I put into them.. But again, I'm not going to sell them. They're absolutely perfect for ME, and that's what matters. Without further ado.. The shopping list I put together of what I'd do. Sorry guys, the red is a little to gaudy for me. As is the cream colored one. yes, if you're going to keep the guitar forever, then that does change things some. but only to remove resale value from the list of considerations. the other factors remain. i do agree that what matters most is that the instrument fulfills your needs above anyone else's opinions. and that's why i tried to word it the way i did. because the things i mentioned don't take into acct the attachment some get to a particular instrument. they are purely from a practical viewpoint. i think of a strat like i think of soup. good ingredients are very crucial. but without good stock they will not be fully appreciated. but really in the end, it's just....
