Yep. You read it. Hardcore Swing. As in me, playing old swing tunes, in the style of hardcore punk. (Some of you may have heard my "cover" of Johnny B. Goode. I'm backing away from that a little. Less screaming.)
Right now, my "set list" is pretty small. I'm working on learning Misirlou right now, and I know Johnny B. Goode pretty well.
Do any of you guys have ideas of songs I could learn? I don't really have a specific genre, it just needs that swing feel to it. I'd REALLY prefer well known songs, so a crowd would be able to get into it just a little more. Instead of someone thinking, "Oh, cool. Swing songs with distortion." they think, "Oh, cool. It's Misirlou with distortion." It's a small difference, but I think it would matter on the stage.

when you say "swing" you dont mean dick dale and chuck berry. that's surf, and early rock and roll or even rock-a-billy, respectively. swing is benny goodman, duke ellington, count basie, louis prima, glenn miller. 1930-something through alot of the 40's in america. that's swing songs like sing, sing, sing and stompin at the savoy. moonlight serenade. if you want to punk out chuck and the gang, also have a look at carl perkins and wanda jackson. in fact, have good look at wanda. she's really hot. as well as talented early rocker.

Some guy did a metal version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for his senior talent show. He went to a christian school and they stopped it before he was done

hey it's no big deal, right? all of us here have stuff we aren't expert on. for example, i have no idea who ANY metal bands are past about 1990. i totally skipped right past all the industrial and electronica in the 90's. i never did figure out what alternative was an alternative to. the only reason i know anything at all about swing is because of my dad who was a big fan of it, and my uncle who used to play drums for art mann and les brown. back in the day, i did experiment with a few old jazz/swing tunes, but we "metalized" them. imagine if black sabbath re-did moonlight serenade. that was kinda what we did.
